Oh I get that "whoah you like anime?" all the time. But I got pretty used to it. Even some of my friends make fun of me sometimes because,as a 19 year old, I am supposedly not allowed to watch anime (they call it cartoons -__-)
I dont care anymore and I still continue to watch anime and read manga.I absolutely cannot live without them. Whoever said anime lovers are nerds (*rolls eyes*) The ones who comment such things are the real nerds.
People are "cool" if they learn to accept others tastes and interests and live with it, instead of whining.
Oh and by the way, I am Asian too.. and I am proud of it because we are part of the culture that revolutionized the so called "cartoon" world.

I don't know... I never knew that hahaha. Almost everyone at my school watches anime so we never say anythimg as rediculouse as that.

Whenever I tell people I love anime, manga, video games and cosplay, they freak- I am a huge Christian and a dancer and cheerleader.
People just want to put us in the "werido" category, and while I know some anime fans are werid, lots of "regular" people are "werid" too. Sure, not all anime fans are Christian- they have a large variety of beliefs, just like the rest of the world (a lot of people think we are satanic).
It's just people being ignorant.
It has to do with the way a lot of anime fans present themselves.
A lot of them misspell very simple words, use a lot of ?s and !s after every sentence, and get very excited or overly defensive when someone doesn't like a series.

Anime is a huge part of my life... so I dont mind being called that.... (And yes, I am also a gamer)...
And that's probably because of how society has categorzied anime/comic fans. I mean, you watch t.v. and the people who are into anime and comics and all that stuff are usually the geeky ones... the same applies for cartoons (being american or whatever) and even anime itself!
Have you read the manga "hot gimmick"? Subaru and his friends are the only geeks in the manga... ironic how they are anime/manga fans.... ^^

Generally you get the idea from people that he think it's sleazy guys who are just in it for the porn, which isn't true.

Dude. Calm down. Stereotyping will never end and it is human instinct. If you see someone who looks creepy, you stay away from them. If someone tells you they like anime
then automatically you are going to think they are nerdy.

Oh my God I know! That is so annoying! I mean, I have no life other than anime (well, I kind of do, I have non-anime friends and stuff), but still. The "Asian" thing really bugs me. I'm Asian, and I like anime, and that IS weird. It's probably just as weird and stereotyped in Japan as it is in America, and I have Asian friends that think anime is stupid.
It's like all other stereotypes. One person who liked anime was a nerdy Asian shut-in with no life, and that ruined it for the rest of us.
From where, you ask? Well... from mis-interpretations of anime and manga fans from the eyes of media.
I once heard that newspaper journalists say a lot of bad stuffs regarding anime and its fans. They even said - without checking the facts thoroughly - that anime = all pr0n cartoons. So anime fans = pr0n cartoons fans. Imagine our anger on them.
So yeah. >_>

Well i try to make people know why we watch this anime & what is unique about it so far everyone that said naruto was stupid became hooked on it thanks to me!!!

put it this way at my school i was voted more japenese than american and i have no oriniental in my blood at all
i'm german,american indian,slavakian,brithish,irish but no japenese at all and i actually look like a white boy born in new york city so i have no clue but i take it as an compliment
but also i hate sterotypes but i prove them wrong all the time
i can school them in basketball and i'll say "you gonna take that from white boy with no tan" ^^ i love it
also like since you kinda mentioned fitness it's brings a cool little bit of info i'd like to say
i am kinda like the stereotype i little chubby and don't go play outside much (because theres nothing to do where i live)
but yet depsite how much i'm like the stereotype i am actually able to blow away all the kids with six packs and think they are so much better than any "fat" kid could be and then i come and wipe the floor with them in just about everything
i mean i almost broke a school record and i'm like 9-12 tens above normal back then and now i'm like 6 and i'm still suprising my fellow athletes and gym teacher it's really easy if your "fat" they expect nothing out of you so if you actaully do really good it like blows their minds ^^ i love the looks on their faces

Anime is very similar to Marvel and DC comics, which are the stuff nerds read a lot so I guess they think reading manga or watching anime is the same thing as reading american comics.
