Buy a Monkey in a Teacup (?) Ad in old comic books!?!

Question: Ive seen these ads online in blogs from old comic books from the 70's -and Jay Leno was talking about how he ordered one as a kid, and it looked like a little mutant creature, and it ran out of his house lol HE WAS SERIOUS too... (while on Jimmy Kimmel Live)
Anyone know any truth to this?? was it a living creature?

This article, linked from lil_weirdo's link, goes into even greater detail about the truth behind these critters.

I don't know. Before I found this question I actually just checked Snopes.com; I'd seen Jay tell this story before and saw it again tonight on JK Live...

Jay seemed so serious... but still. It's a little too bizarre.

Snopes didn't have anything on it; I haven't looked much further at this point. My best guess is that it was a marmoset of some type.

This article answers your question: http://tracytaylor925.wordpress.com/2008...

It was a cold day in december when at first i was awoken from my den in the mountains of east asia. My mother was in the kitchen and was calling me to breakfast, which for us was a small plate of nuts and a snail shell to lick (if we were lucky), when my hut began to shake and i was snatched up by a giant manhand which must have been over a foot in length.

Being of the smallest monkey species, of course i was frightened and worried that my life may be at an end. However, i was taken and placed in a small box. I began screaming and so i did until the box was open and i fled the home of the fine suburban family. I must say, that today I look back on my actions and see the flaws. These were kind people and would have, more likely than not, spent many time and much money ensuring my well-being.

I fled into a church where a blind nun took me in, thinking I was a mute child of "little people." This nun taught me all she could until her death in 1984. I then went on to attend Cal State Fullerton where i majored in business and met my now wife of 15 years.

Today i own a small diner in south los angeles and have four children.

To answer your question, yes, we did exist, and while some might consider this a form of animal cruelty (and indeed for in some cases it was), in reality it was a gateway into a better life in stronger countries than our own.

Are you sure they weren't sea monkeys? You can still buy them somewhere as I saw some at a flea market a few years ago.
