Why is it so hard to understand that Anime are NOT Cartoons?!

Question: they're both ANIMATION, the definition for cartoon is NOT animation, so Anime is NOT a cartoon, it's a form or genre of animation.

it's like saying Apples and Pears are the same just cuz they're fruit.

Why? Because a lot of people are idiots. I'm Japanese, and I kind of find it offensive that others find it okay to classify "Japanese" as a genre. Anime is a form of entertainment from Japan with multiple genres. It is also part of our culture, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete dork and should be hit on the head with a stick.

Anyway, hope this is informative for you. I tried to make it short and to the point so that you can understand.

3.An animated cartoon.

anime
c.1985, Japanese for "animation," a term that seems to have arisen in the 1970s, apparently based on the Eng. word. Manga (q.v.) is Japanese for "comic book, graphic novel," but anime largely are based on manga and until 1970s, anime were known as manga eiga or "TV manga." The two terms are somewhat confused in Eng.

That's misguided at best.

Cartoon is animation, and animation is cartoon. They're synonyms. Look it up in any dictionary.

Anime is cartoon, a Japanese cartoon.

Anime is NOT a "genre" by any means. It is a subset of a medium, a cultural extension of Japan. As such, it cannot be a style nor can it have a concrete style.

It if were a "form or genre" of animation, then anybody who mastered the specific formula for anime would be able to replicate it. That is not true.

Genre is things like western, mystery, horror, action, romance, etc.

"Japanese" is not a genre. You can't have a work that's a Japanese. You can however, have a work that is Japanese horror, or Japanese thriller, or a horror or thriller about Japan or incorporating elements of Japan.

Anime has no concrete boundaries nor any sort of stylistic criteria as far as the physical animation goes. If that were the case, then one would first have to define the "anime style," which does not exist whatsoever.

Monster is different from Dead Leaves as Bleach is different from Akira. You cannot classify such diverse styles into an inefficient umbrella term.

If anime were a genre of animation, then Teen Titans would be anime. Lion King would be anime. Anything that bore a passing resemblance to or contained several "key characteristics" of anime would have to be classified as such.

The only "anime style" that exists is at most a general set of artistic expression found commonly across the medium.

Anime is Japanese animation in its simplest sense. Anime is a subset of the medium of animation, separated from other animations by country of origin.

A cartoon is a cartoon, but an American cartoon is not the same as a Japanese one.

Example: The ignorance of "XOXO" saying nobody cares because it's from Japan.

Most people don't care because they don't appreciate the hard work of the Mangaka, and they don't show any respect for they do not study.

It's ignorant really, and nobody post anything 'bout Jap's sucking because I'm Jap and it hurts me feelings T-T
