Yeah, It would look weird. Plus it's an anime. If you watch lots of anime, you would know that the older the person, the smaller the eyes, it's actually some sorta guideline when it comes to drawing anime. And not that I'm racist or anything but no one would wanna watch an anime about a slanty eyed ninja.
well it looks like almost all anime characters are like that. ive never seen an asian dude with blonde hair either. and the person above's answer isnt necessarily true. take pervy sage for example. he's old but he doesnt have skinny eyes.
Actually most young Japanese kids have big, cute eyes. (I'm Japanese, i know) and older someone gets, it seems the smaller his eyes get, like my dad. so there not necessarily "american eyes".
And Masashi Kishimoto said in interview with Jump magazine that he gave Naruto blond hair and blue eyes too appeal more to his american audience.
the reason why anime characters have big eyes is cuz the pupil size can express emotion more clearly and effectively.
