Why is anime so popular?What is your fav anime?!
Question: Anime is very popular because of its unique drawing, it is similar to human drawings but in a cartoonish way. Our american cartoons are much more simple, and some people just call it dumb, and soon get unenerested. Anime is muchly loved because its the same style, but done in different ways for the large variety of different shows. The most popular would be Naruto, Naruto Shippuden (sequel to that series) Bleach, deathnote, and Full Metal Alchemist, those I have actaully watched half through. Another reason anime is so popular is because of the girls and boy's looks. You can find more apealing women and men in anime, and lastly, becuase they have exciting story plots and characters, they have more life added to the drawing. Anime is the best. It's just so fun and funny. And they look funny. I mean for every emotion and anime charachter has there is a funny face. My favoruite anime of all times is Deathnote but that is a sort of killing detective thingy kind but if you want an anime that will make you laugh. OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB . It's the best! Anime is so popular because of many reasons. There is a variety of it, with many different categories. Also, because there is such a variety of it, it is easier for people to find one that they can relate to. But you don't only have to watch anime. You can read it(manga), and cosplay it. That's what I love about it. Personally, I enjoy shojo, but Naruto and Inuyasha are also really good.:]
If you've watched American cartoons and seen how ill drawn/pointless they are then it's easy to see why one would switch to anime.

I think its so popular because a lot of the style and imagery is very cool and appealing to teenagers and twenty-somethings.
With animation you can have your characters do things that live actor couldn't possibly do.
I would check out Ninja Scroll and Akira. Both awesome and mainstream enough to get a good feel for the genre without being too extreme.
ps. I highly advise watching in Japanese with English subtitles
pps Also check out anything by Hayao Miyazaki (ie Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle) These are more like fairy tales or disney movies in an anime style. Miyazaki is a master of storytelling and I think will please any viewer today and for generations to come.
ppps Just for clarity, I'm noticing pretty much everyone else who has answered so far is talking about TV shows. Everything I mentioned are movies. As for TV shows...check out Dragonball Z...that's what I think really started the anime craze in the US
I think anime is so popular because it goes way beyond what any american animators have ever done. With the exception of a few good things, most american cartoons are drawn sketchy as if a child drew it, they have no plot, and pretty much is just meant for children. With anime, depending on the genre and show, it is made for all different ages. They have shows that are for younger kids, teens, and adults. THe animations vary (some are sketchy yes) but most of the time it is beautiful. They are filled with in depth stories and you follow characters as they grow or whatever it is that is going on in that particular show. It usually has some meaning or message. But yes, they are very fun, you can have very serious or very cute and funy animes. My personal favorites at the moment are Saiyuki and Tsubasa Reservior Chronicles. But I do love a lot of them XD

We love anime bc were all children at heart, and all the other reasons above. I don't know if I can count it as anime, but I like Avatar The last Airbender ;p

My favorite series has to be Elfen Lied. It is dark, sad, and occasionally depressing, and yet hauntingly beautiful at the same time. Not one for the kiddies, the immature, or the overly sensitive.
I think anime is like a form of escapism for people from their real worlds. My favorite anime is the Saiyuki series.
I think it's idiotic to decide not to be friends/to like someone just because they do or do not like anime. It's just a hobby *shrug*
I enjoy anime and manga. My favorite currently is Air TV, which is about a boy named Yukito Kunisaki, who is searching for the 'girl in the sky' his late mother told him stories about when he was little. He meets Misuzu, Kano, and Minagi, and each girl seems to be a candidate for the girl in the sky. That is, until Misuzu starts talking about strange dreams of flying, and how she feels there is another her in the sky.
I also enjoy Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It's amazingly violent and psychological.

im 13 and love anime.. i loved pokmon when i was 7 and i dont mind it now. i love anime eyes and i love there hair cuz you can have any style and it wont look stupid.. also they have be born with pink , blue , yellow and white hair .. i love people in anime cuz there hair lol
