If Renji is such a sweet guy and really cares about Rukia, then why...?!

Question: In the manga when he comes to get her..he swipes his sword at her.. even threatens that next time it'll be dangerous.

Also, he wasn't so intent on bothering to save her from her execution until he found out about Ichigo's determination.

I like Renji's character a lot but I can't say I understand it sometimes.

yeah..kinda confused me too..how could he hurt rukia like that?at first i thought he really wanted to kill rukia..haha...but i think its safe to assume that he did that bcoz he wanted to put a tough guy act in front of captain byakuya..he did say he wanted to surpass him..if he let his emotions get ahead of him..that would give the capt a bad impression towards him..i mean come on..they were friends since they were brats..

still i think i like the idea of ichigo and renji competing for rukia..haha

maybe hes an abusive boyfriend...

you know the ones that abuse the girlfriend and then cry and say how stupid he was...

yeah i can imagine renji as that type of guy

Oh men! That's how they act. They think that by showing no emotions could tell it all.

If I were you I won't fret about it. He obviously cares for Rukia more than Ichigo, Sado or anyone in the story. Besides, he s caring and he's on the move already, hohoho. But that's just a guess.

reji really cares about rukia. iam not sure. I love bleach too

Maybe he wants to teach her a lesson. Or maybe he's just jealous.

Renji was probably intended to be a villain in the beginning. Due to an unknown force (probably Renji fanletters), the author suddenly changed his mind about what kind of character Renji was going to be, hence the lack of an explanation for his sudden change in behavior.
That's what I think.

well, maybe because he's trying to show rukia that she committed a serious offense. plus, byakuya is watching so he really wanna show up. and i think he wanted to show rukia how powerful he's gotten since her absence in soul society.
but renji really cares for her. he expected byakuya to appeal on rukia's case that's why he wasn't worried that much. he didn't think that rukia will be actually executed.
so when he figured out that he can't save rukia alone, he sought the help of ichigo.
renji risked his life for rukia many times. in the movie and in the episodes. same as byakuya. but i never saw ichigo saved rukia in a near-death situation. why in the world i brought that topic up? hehe.
hope that somehow, you're enlightened. =>

he wants to look strong and smart and powerful in front of her. that's why he puts on a tough act, but deep down he's sweet and loves her with all his might

"In the manga when he comes to get her..he swipes his sword at her.. even threatens that next time it'll be dangerous. "

He's being the good little soldier and following orders. At that point, he very much a duty-bound personality.

"Also, he wasn't so intent on bothering to save her from her execution until he found out about Ichigo's determination"

When he saw the lengths Ichigo was willing to go to to save Rukia, regardless of the rules, he was shamed. He realized how "stupid" he was, and that to become a Captain, you occasionally have to do something that makes you stand out from the crowd.
