He was Light's enemy that's why. He's going to be replaced with a guy almost exactly like him anyway.

Because that what Light wanted,and Misa wanted Light to be happy so,Misa as Rem to kill L for him,but in return Light must protect Misa or Rem will kill Light. I guess its just the way they wrote it,I guess they wanted to make the plot more interesting without L there to always bother/attack Light.

L was my favorite character, it was so sad when he died. I hated Light so much, loser, he just had to blackmail Rem into killing L. And Rem just had to kill him cause she didn't want to cause Misa unfortune. Aww, darn, Light and Misa, L died cause of them TT.TT
He was so cool, and he died trusting Light [well kind of] but still... Light's so mean >=|
yup.. thats why I dont like its ending.. Light and L died...T.T
