It basically is a flashback to Kakashi past on how he was on a mission and how he got the sharingan. Although it only in the manga.
There are no episodes for it yet. The story starts on 239 and goes on for 6 chapters.

In later years Kakashi was assigned to lead a mission that would turn the war going on at the time in Konoha's favor. When his teammate, Rin, was captured by enemy ninja, Kakashi elected to leave her behind and finish the mission. His other teammate, Obito Uchiha, rejected this alternative, stating that those who abandon their friends are worse than garbage and that Kakashi's father had done the right thing by saving his teammates. Touched by Obito's words, Kakashi joined him in a rescue effort, though his left eye became damaged in the ensuing battle. After finding Rin and preparing to escape, an enemy induced cave-in crushed Obito. With the cave continuing to collapse around them and Obito unable to free himself, Obito urged his teammates to save themselves. Before leaving, Obito had Rin implant his Sharingan eye into Kakashi's damaged eye socket as a gift. His new eye in tow, Kakashi fled with Rin as the cave collapsed, eventually completing their mission and forever mourning Obito's death.

In the Naruto manga, of the first 244 chapters, the last 6 take place before the regular storyline. This is called the Kakashi Gaiden.
It is all about how Kakashi got the Sharingan eye from Obito Uchiha, who was part of his team and was his best friend.
There's no anime episode for it.

Chapter 239-244. It basically shows you how Kakashi got the Sharingan, and his relationship with his teammates and their sensei Minato Namikaze (the Yondaime before having this title).
Since I don't want to put spoilers and ruin you fun, all I'm going to say it's that in here, you'll see how Kakashi's personality changes from thinking that everything should go by the rules to the fact that helping your friends might be even more important. The guys' personality is similar to Naruto's, Sakura's and Sasuke's; so it's easy to relate with them...

Gaiden means side story. So Kakashi Gaiden basically means Kakashi's Side Story.
People have been explaining on what Kakashi Gaiden is like, and in which chapters, so I won't bother repeating it.
Currently Kakashi Gaiden hasn't yet been animated. There's one "hole" in the story - Yondaime's Hiraishin no Jutsu - that prevents the whole story to be animated. (We haven't seen how Yondaime's Hiraishin works out, and how could he manage to defeat enemy ninjas with just a swift move.) Besides, Kakashi still kept his Sharingan's origin a secret from Team Seven (Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura).
Maybe if somebody actually ask how did he get his Sharingan in the manga, then yes it will eventually be animated. Until then, we can only read the manga version, sorry. =^_^=;;
kakshi gaiden is the Corincles Of kakshi otherwise the story of kakshi, his Sharingan & his mask witch was on the managa though never aired on Tv tokyo as an anime instaid they did the Filers we know.
Reading the kakashi Gaiden arc will makes you know who he is & how he acquired his Sharingan & why he wears that mask
& It's a must have thing
