Full Metal Alchemist. The story is intricate, the characters are charmingly diverse in both personality, height (lol), and history. The Elric brothers' journey for the Philosopher's Stone leads them down a challenging path wrought with sorrow, pain and suffering...but also hope.
I've enjoyed every episode of FMA. I cannot say the same for Bleach, which was adorable at the start and intriguing until it spiraled down the route of your ordinary cartoony fillers and junk side-plots...with plastic characters and shallow backgrounds...eugh. I actually found the Naruto fillers to be considerably less painful...Bleach's fillers border on DBZ-quality fights and emotionally-illogical ...stupidness.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the main cast of Bleach...but it's transference to littler characters is annoying me. A LOT, not because they switched focus, but because these characters SUCK. And it makes the whole show feel like a retarded animated soap opera set in whacko-not-really-Japan-land.
I love both animes, but I choose Bleach!^^

Full Metal Alchemist because the plot has a good reason why. In life, sometimes you have to give something in exchange for something else. Plus.... Ed is so funny when gets called "short" !! ^^

Watch Full Metal first because it's a completed series then watch Bleach cause it's still airing

Fullmetal Alchemist, because it's more original, it created a new world for alchemy, Shinighamis has already been done. Bleach is still awesome!
BLEACH anime, cuz FMA is a good anime, but it absolutely sucks if you compare it with the manga...while bleach anime is (in my opinion) better than the manga if you skip the fillers (bount-arc, ep 64-109, I think). FMA looses the manga somewhere in the middle and develops a heart-throbbing drama, teeny angst and so on and so on. Just read it...it's better, believe me.
Fazit: BLEACH
i would say full metal just because it is complete. while bleach is addicting it isn't a complete story like full metal. go with that one. that is the anime that actually got me hoooked in the first place.

I HATE Bleach. All this freakin' ghosts and Shinigami and everything else.... I HATE THEM! Fullmetal Alchemist has action, a good story, a bit of drama, funny events, and exciting battles! Everything an anime should have!
Full Metal Alchemist, hands down. The overall plot is so much better than that of Bleach. Bleach, in my opinion, is very poorly written, and it isn't very interesting to watch either. What I did watch of that anime bored me to tears, and so I refuse to watch it again.
Man that's a hard one. ^.^; But you should start with FullMetal Alchemist.
1. it's already been thru the whole series
2. It has a movie to tie it all up
3. It's awesome!
4. It's a completely unique anime that isn't related to any other anime out there. (Bleach is unique, but you could relate it to something else)
5. It's funny as hell
6. The plot's perfect
7. The battles are amazing
8. It knows when to get serious
9. There aren't so many names to memorize (Bleach has all these names for characters, their zanpaktou, their squads, and their duties. Minor drawback, but still a reason)
10. Just watch it!! ^.^
