Yu Yu Hakusho! and Ranma is def. worth watching. Anyways, YYH, has alot of action and such a spectrum of characters but it also has a little bit of romance too! n a little fun fact :January 6th, 1999, Takeuchi (creator of Sailor Moon) married fellow manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho
I think you might like ouran high school host club.
Check out Utawarerumono. It was one of the few newer animes that I really got into. Also, Now And Then, Here and There is great.
Boogie Pop Phantom is a requirement. And if you can, grab The Harlock Saga as a side piece to Galaxy Express.
Another one to check out would be Rumiko Takahashi' Mermaid sagas. Mermaid Forest and Mermaid Scar.
I was blown away by Galaxy Express 999!
But I must admit that the sequel,
Adieu Galaxy Express 999, is disappointing
by comparision.
If you enjoy it, you may want to explore the
other animes that take place in the Leiji
Matsumoto universe, namely, Star Blazers
("Uchu Senkan Yamato") and the sequel
Yamato movies. Great epic story with
wonderful characters who'll put your emotions
thru the wringer.
