Ok, on the T.V. when Light was watching it, he copied the so called "L"'s name, but when "L" (P.S. that dude wasn't L) so when that dude died it was all a set-up from the real L, the dude Light killed was a criminal whose death sentence was on that day. So after all you can be happy, L isn't died...I don't think he will die though, at all. By the way, L's real name is Ryuzaki.
NO! LOL! they never reveal his identity! he is simply known in the manga, and, anime as "L"! LOL HOPE THIS HELPS!
its an amazing manga and even though you already find out some of what happens i would keep reading it to find out all your answers ^_^
