i like watching both but i watch more dubbed then subbed though some of the dubbed anime voices really suck, so i guess it depends on the anime and how much you like to read.

subs are always better than dubs, because, the american actors almost ALLLLLLLLLLLLLWAYS screw up the voices, and, i prefer the original japanese voices anyways! LOL! HOPE THIS HELPS!

Subs are better. It's more accurate and most of the time the Japanese voices sound way better than the voices in dubbed anime... I'll watch dubbed if the voices aren't butchered though.

I prefer sub...

only because I really dislike most american voice over actors. There are some series that I like dubbed... like Inuyasha, Orphen, Saiyuki, FMA, Fruits basket, Ergo Proxy... and some other ones..... but... aside from Inuyasha, Fruits Basket and FMA.... I prefer subbed.

=]

I like watching subbed better. The voices fit the character better and I think give it more feeling. Also in the dubbed versions, sometimes they edit out parts of it that are in the subbed. The only anime that I really watch dubbed is Inuyasha.

Sub FTW i just hate the english vocies and some times they say diffrent things from the japanese version

the majority of the anime are better in dubb but like in naruto, subbs are better cause voices in english sounds like gay

Well it depends on what you like. For me I like subs better.

I Just Like Subs Because they are much better.

sub-dub lol

SUB!!!! the voices match the character's personalities better and i think that some of the guys sound like girls when they r suppose to b really manly and things like that.
:D

Subbed. It's way more authentic and the voices are better 99.9% of the time. So what if you have to read a little? It makes watching TV not quite as much of a drain on your IQ. Plus, reading quickly is an important skill. I've used it a lot. It actually got me and several friends A's on a few assignments that most of the rest of class had issues with.

And I do pick up the occasional Japanese word, too. My favorite that I learned from anime is "yose", which means "Elf" or "Fairy".

So basically, watching anime subbed isn't only better in quality, but it teaches you useful skills. Owned. ^^

I would say that the subs are much better than the dubs; the fact that you have to read is only a minor inconvenience, the voice quality is much better than its English counterpart; for example, I'm sure you've noticed how English voices tend to sound cartoony and amateur in many anime, mostly due to untalented and inexperienced voice actors; also, in English, the voices contrast the characters age, making a kid sound like an adult, another thing about the dubs is the fact that they tend edit out content that they may deem as inappropriate for "younger" viewers. All this makes the dubs somewhat detrimental to your personal experience with anime, and leaves you with a rather negative retrospect on what would have otherwise been a fond memory to look back on.

Subbed ftw.

I prefer sub, because the proper japanese terms and pronounciation is used, the mouths match and the emotion and expression in their voices are better, plus you get to learn new words and phrases in Jap =)
But my friends prefer dub...because they can't read the sub fast enough lolz >.<

i usually watch sub because the japenese voices sound alot better then the english voices!!

Before I start, note that subbed is usually easier to come by. Dubs can take years to come out, but the sub can be out a few days after it shows in japan. Lots of series are never dubbed, so the only choice is subbed.

Why I prefer subbed:

In the subbed version, the voices match up with the mouth movements of the character much better (since this is how they were drawn). In the english dubbed the voice actors have to try to match the mouth movements, with a different language, which is difficult, and sometimes results in an awkward sounding phase.

In subbed anime, it is usually the original series as it was broadcast. In dubbed, there tends to be more censorship (america is much more strict with nudity and blood than japan is).

In Japan, a voice actor, or seiyuu, is a much more practiced job. There is a much bigger choice of people to be voice actors in anime, since it is so much more common in Japan than America. This usually means the Japanese voice actors are more experienced, but again, not always.

It might be just be me, but the japanese voice actors do seem to show more emotion. I don't know why, but after watching subbed anime, the dubbed seems to sounds like they aren't putting any effort in.

Sometimes you just can't translate something, like the honorifics. There are lots of times when a character uses certain honorifics to address someone. -sama is usually translated as "Sir" or "Lady", but those aren't right. If someone says "onee-sama" (onee = older sister) it is translated to "big sister". How many people would say "Hi big sister"? So it sounds wierd when its translated.

The naming order. A name might be Ichigo Kurosaki (from bleach). A boy in his class at school might call him "Kurosaki-san," which is the normal way to refer to an aquantance your age in japan. This is translated to "Mr. Kurosaki", but how many kids seriously call their friends like that in America? It also takes away signifigance when someone calls him "Ichigo-kun" which would be the way a friend might refer to him.

There are a lot of wordplays too. In bleach, Ichigo's name from its sound means "Strawberry", a girls name. But it is spelled with the kanji for ichi (one) and go (protect), so he says it means he is number one protector or something. This just doesn't make sense when its translated, but in the subbed, they usually add in an explanation of the joke, so we understand what happened.

And about the accuracy. I don't know if the translation is accurate, but fansubs are usually at least as accurate, if not more, than the dub is. Sometimes they leave in a phrase like "itadakimasu", which we could say means "bon apetite" or "I'm digging in", but people don't always say that at dinner, so it sounds wierd translated. Fansubbers usually do a very good job, at least from what little japanese I know.

Those are the main reasons I like subbed better. Some people hate the reading, but I actually enjoy reading it and listening to the japanese voices, because if theres people around, you can turn the sound down, or if theres a reference to another anime or something, the subs often explain it.

And subbed versions usually write out the kana/kanji, the romaji, and even a translation of the opening and closing songs.

Neither is totally superior, And sometimes I like the dubbed better. If a characters voice is grating in subbed anime, I'll watch it dubbed.

Its all personal preference, and it depends on the anime. Theres no end-all better translation. I just usually prefer the subbed.

Well it depends on the anime! I prefer dub but I tend to like a sub if I end up watching a subbed episode befor a dub bed one. Also some are only in sub so I have to deal! But either are good! I love anime no matter sub or dub!

By te way love your avatar!

OBVIOUSLY!!!! SUB IS BETTER THAN DUB!!! DUB SUCKS!!!! U GET CONFUSED BY THE VOICES LYK IF U STARTED WATCHING IT IN JAPANESE THEN LATER ON U START WATCHING IT IN ENGLISH U WILL DEFINETLY GET CONFUSED!!! MARK MY WORDS!

for voices & quality sub is better.

but when i get lazy, i watch dubs.

Sub is better then dub.

sub, you have to read and it could be a real headache because you have to read and look at the screen at the same time, which could be a bother. Dub is good, but in some ways they're both good
