It would help if you gave us a sample... But I'll answer your question in as many different ways as it can be taken. ^^;

To make something move, you need to draw several pictures that change only slightly each time. You can use a flash program for the actual animation part or connect them together using Windows Movie Maker (probably doesn't work as well) or something along those lines.

For making AMVs, slideshows, and other fan movies, you will need a DVD (or some other source of clips), a DVD ripper (only if you have a DVD), pictures (if you're making a slideshow), music, and some form of video manipulation software. Windows comes with Windows Movie Maker, but there are others that are much better and easier to use. First, get the clips on to your computer, preferably in AVI format. Then, import to WMM and begin editing.

And I think that's about it...

There are too many ways to answer your question. Assuming you already have the video or movie, then, what software do you have or know how to use? What type or genra of animation are you going for? I don't know if you can still find it but the 80's group, Ah Ha had a cool animation to video for their song "Take Me On" or "Take On Me". Idol judge Paula Abdul also incorporated an animiation character in her, I believe, "Straight Up and Tell Me" video. And, then, there is the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". United Airlines have some of the best animated commercials. The recent Sobe (I know you can get this in YouTube) commercial that played during the Super Bowl is also really cool. What about that Geico gickle (sp?)? And, then, the list goes on. You need to narrow to what you want and, then, figure out your questions.
