For people who say Shikamaru is the smartest anime charater, YOUR WRONG! Shikamaru is smart but he is lazy, which is not smart and he could be training more. But Kakashi is the smartest. In one shippuden episode when Kakashi fought Sakura and Naruto again, Naruto even said he has the brains of Shikamaru. But even if Naruto is wrong Kakashi is the smartest
