Since you've seen Death Note, I suggest you watch Monster. One of my top favorites, great mystery drama. It has all the twists and turns of Death Note too. 74 episodes, no fillers

I've suggested it to many Death Note fans, and they were all hooked by at least, like, the fourth episode of Monster (which covers the first volume of the manga). Just check it out, you won't be disappointed, trust me ^^
Code Geass: Lelouche of the Rebellion -
Another anime that is somewhat similar to Death Note. Code Geass is also making its way to Adult Swim on April 6th.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni -
A great psychological murder mystery series, with comedy, and horror. There's a second season that explains a lot.
A third season is on the way too. However, it is pretty violent, so I'm not sure if you would mind it or not.

Nodame Cantabile, Bamboo blade and Clannad for sure and maybe City hunter. I enjoyed Paradise Kiss, Nana and Denno coil
