I like the movie ending. I know Anno was not happy about making the movie, and that he thought the series ending was perfect, but I think that may have been a case where the creator knew exactly what was happening but didn't know how to explain it to the audience so they understood as well. The movie provided a much better sense of closure than the series.
My husband prefers the series ending though, so you're not alone!
