What's on Wikipedia is not fact.Anybody can go on there and edit it to say what they want.
Anyways,I don't think he's dead.I think he's very,very close to dying.I don't think Kishi would just let him go out like that.And I think the only reason he poked his forehead was because he was about to pass out and he missed his eye.It was just ironic that he poked his forehead like when they were younger.It makes no sense to me saying Itachi has never hated Sasuke.
It's also not clear if Sasuke's in shock because of what Itachi said or because he collapsed out of nowhere.

maybe because he excepted the fact that his fate was to die (stupid writer NO OFFENSE JUST MAD) and that Sasuke was strong and he was meant to be the last itachi and he learned to LOVE!

probably he died, he looked too tired and i think he knew that he only had a couple of seconds to live thats why he went to sasuke and poked his forehead. im guessing that itachi tried to tell him "remember when you were a kid?" or something like that
maybe he excited because sasuke become strong and beat him like he asked to, that to become strong and seek him for revenge...but maybe because he die before accomplish his mission to get sasuke eyes...i dont think he dies, like orochimaru that still appear...and with a lot of jutsu...maybe itachi still in the plot...i hope...lol XD

He poked Sasuke's forhead because he always did somewhat still care for Sasuke no matter what he said. The poke on the forhead meant Forgive me Sasuke.

As for why he poked Sasuke's forhead, I personally believe that he never hated Sasuke at all. The poke was sort of like his way of sending Sasuke that message and asking for forgivness. And personally, I hope Sasuke feels like crap about it if Itachi is dead. If he isn't then he and Sasuke better kiss and make up (figurativly speaking of course. The fangirly Uchiha-cest thing weirds me out).
I think Itachi's gone...sad...I think the poke to Sasuke's head was his way of saying before he died " Your stronger than me now...but I will always be your big brother...."
damn!, go read wikipedia all your answers are wrong Itachi did not die he passed out from exhaustion and the reason he poked Sasuke in the head is because he still cared for Sasuke.Sasuke thinks he's won but he lost a friend

ITACHI Died!!??....his "dead" almost left me with the similar sensation from Jiraiya's passing away....Although, for me, Jiraiya has a stronger emotional attachness.....but, somehow at the end of it i couldn't hide this feeling of "blah?" is this it? what?....I really hope I don't get this feeling at the end of Naruto....but, it sure is interesting and it is keeping me on my feet on what is going to happen next....
....So after a long trail, Itachi's fight was well fought...and I really think it is very interesting that you point out the forehead comparison....in the next chapter (or in the anime), they might actually show a flashback of his childhood with Sasuke and all that he has been through to get to this point....it reminds of Sasori's story for some reason....tragic ending? perhaps....but, as most readers should be, we are all confused and yet very excited for the next chapter to come!
...also....I think there will be a twist....at the end, with the white snake coming out I think that it is still orochimaru and he might take over Itachi's body (whatever is left of it).....ever since Itachi went crazy a few chapters ago with his "purpose" for Sasuke's eyes I started getting the creeps and started losing confidence that he will win this battle....the first reaction I got when Itachi touched Sasuke's forehead was "he was so close to obtaining his goal, yet he failed...." Sasuke was just there, he basically lost the battle if Itachi only had a few more seconds of Chakra to sustain his "invincible form" ...but he failed....both in his goal and as a big brother....
Still, much respect for this character and all that he has done to keep the drama and the momentum of this story going...
Itachi, Rest in Peace....
I hope so. Sasuke's my favorite character and Itachi is my least. Masashi Kishimoto better have killed Itachi off!
