Sasuke(i don't like him), but he has had a bad childhood, Gaara, Naruto, and Diva(Blood+)
that will be shoujiro, the one with a smiling face, but then his past was sooo... sad, worst indeed and he met shishiyo just not right... and if you watch the episode where they recall his past really really (sigh) i still remember when he look up the sky and just smile... and yeah...

Ever since then his life was all nothing but survival coz of the pain that he had gone through... just sad... yet there's this pain in his eyes even when he smiles... hahahaha

That's a tough one...
One hand we have rejected characters like Inuyasha and Gaara... both have had a tough childhood; and even when time has past people still feared them and hate them for no good reason... They both have had a figure who has stand by them; in the case of Inuyasha his mom, who died when he still was a kid; in the case of Gaara, Yashamaru, his uncle who turn out to be a traitor... However; for Inuyasha 'cus he's a demon he will always be hated; in the case of Gaara, the fact that he became Kazekage... well, made him have better luck... except for the Akatsuki wanting the Shukaku; but after that it's OK to implied that gets peace (at least some), unlike Inuyasha who will always be pick on...
Oh, well... On the other hand the characters who have had massive losts... Sasuke and Sango; both characters in one day l got injured (severely in Sango's case) and lost everyone close to them... Itachi killed Sasuke's clan and he's the trigger of Sasuke's madness of revenge (and with reason!!); right now Itachi is dead... however, even when that was Sasuke's purpouse... what would he do now?? To be honest; that character has no coming back to me... he may have had his revenge; but he is so lost and still hurt (again, with good reasons to)... that it's just too late for him... In Sango's case; Naraku killed every family member and friend, one could say everyone who knew her, (Sasuke still had his friends, even when he felt away and distant)... and he used Kohaku (her brother) to force to give him Tessaiga; at the end Naraku wanted her to fight Kohaku so the Shikon jewel got contaminated; but she didn't... that's something that we see in the series... she always chooses to bring back Kohaku, even if that means her own death... Somehow this character remains sane; well... partly thanks to friends like Kirara, Kagome, Miroku, Shippou and Inuyasha... who have stand by her... In any case she accepted their help... let's remember that she has fallen apart and Kagome has given her confort; and on the other side Sasuke has cried and everything, but he has always chosen to remain distant from people... I guess in order to keep his mind focus in his revenge... (By the way I didn't put Neji; 'cus the level of number of losts are way different... But, I know... it's still very tragic)
So, well... I choose Sango; she has the most tragic past ever... 'cus again; she lost EVERYONE she knew; except of the the dude who asks her to marry him and Kohaku (who's technically dead)... She got sort of saved due to her new friends who rapidly became close thanks to how good they behave... and that's why Sango has somehow pulled it off and is not consumed by anger (at least not as much as Sasuke... who to me is just lost)... she let herself rely in good people... Sasuke; well... I think the kid might be better dead... as he said to Naruto "Oosen da yo, Naruto... Mou oosen da yo" (Too late, Naruto... It's just too late for me)
I would say Shinji Ikari from Evangelion cuase as a very young boy he see's his mother "death" during the the start up of an EVA. Then he father abandons him.
It's my absolute favorite childhood story...

The story is so heartwretching! I chose this past because it's just so well done! It really gets down on you, and you have to think about it. And it shows how far a girl was forced to grow up when all the responsibility in her life was broken into pieces and thrown at her heart... :'(

i would have to say edward elric.... his father left him and his moher and brother as a kid and then his mother died..... he and his brother were just really little kids so they with alchemy tried to bring their mother back. by doin so al lost his whole body and ed lost 1 arm and 1 leg.... he now is looking for the philosephers stone to get there bodys back.... now al is tryng to hide that all that is in the suit of armor is his soul.... so i think ed and al have had a really hard past. :(
