What do these anime terms mean?!

Question: I hear these sometimes, but I don't know what they mean. -.-" Can someone please tell me?

Seinen?
Josei?
harem?
and apparently there are two different words to describe what type of yaoi/yuri an anime is or something like that . But I can't remember what they're called. (it's not shounen-ai or shoujo-ai, they're called something else...) Can someone please tell me those too? O.o

Okay, First of all.....Seinen is a kind of manga targeted on adult males specifically 18-30 yrs old but the audience can be much older than some contain mature scenes, some....not really mature scenes....Josei is the female equivalent to seinen, they are mostly made by women for late teenage and adult female audiences. Harem is an anime sub-genre where in some single everyday kind of guy is surrounded by a number of really attractive females (ranging from 3 to 7) where most are romantically atracted to that main male character. Oh, since you already know abot yaoi and yuri.......ummmm .......The two participants in a yaoi relationship are often referred to as seme ("attacker") and uke ("receiver"). Although these terms originated in martial arts, they have apparently been used in a sexual context for centuries and do not carry any degrading connotations. Seme derives from the Japanese verb semeru (“to attack”) and uke from the Japanese verb ukeru (“to receive”). Though gay males are often referred to in English as "tops" or "bottoms," seme and uke are more nearly analogous to "pitcher" and "catcher." Anal sex is a prevalent theme in yaoi, as nearly all stories feature it in some way. (sorry about that)

The seme is often depicted as the stereotypical male of anime and manga culture: restrained, physically powerful, and/or protective. The seme generally has a stronger chin, shorter hair, smaller eyes, and a more stereotypically masculine demeanor than the uke. The seme usually pursues the uke. The uke usually has softer, youthful features with bigger eyes and a smaller build, and is often physically weaker than the seme. He is usually less experienced with romance or sex and his interactions with the seme often make for his first homosexual experience. The storyline where an uke is reluctant to have anal sex with a seme is considered to be similar to the reader's reluctance to have sex whilst still a virgin. Another common trope is where the seme puruses the uke to the point of rape, as "an expression of love". The uke, during the course of the rape, ends up enjoying it, and returns the seme's love. Another stereotype that is criticised by western press is that the protagonists usually do not identify as gay, but rather are simply in love with that particular person.

now that's what you call an anime fan addict!! yup that's me!! ^_^ Hope I helped!!!

the word is probably okama, but i dont know what those words mean

Yaoi is guy on guy manga/anime and yuri isw girl on girl manga/anime. its the same as shonen ai and shoujo ai. ps a harem is the kings net of personal harlots

Seinen is anime for older men
Josei is for older women

No idea about Harem T_T

Seinen is like for guys that are 18-30 years old 'cause it has graphical things in it. The one fir girls is called Josei.
And Harem has a type of story where a guy has like 3-7 girls falling for him, or something like that.

Seinen is a type of manga that is targeted for an older male audience, generally mid teens and older.

Josei is targeted to adult women and is basically the female counterpart to seinen.

Harem has to do with a main character that has several other love interests (like 1 guy in a harem of girls...)

I'm not sure what the other term is that you're looking for, but there's a link to where you can read the full articles on types of manga, starting with yaoi and shotacon.

Hope that helps!

seinen refers to a genre of anime targeted at an audience of young adults or older people whereas shonen is targeted at younger male audiences and shoujo is for girls

Josei- I dunno

harem- That's like an anime where there's a male character surrounded by lots of hot female characters in a situation that would never happen in real life. Generally you get a lot of fanservice and stuff in these. Like you'll have a guy living with five girls or something and he ends up getting in a relation with one or more of them.

yuri is like when they have lesbian action going on in an anime yaoi is when it's like guys doing gay sort of stuff. They're both like fanservice

shounen-ai is like the same as yaoi and shoujo-ai is the same as yuri as far as I can tell they're just different names for it.

* Shotacon ("Shōtarō Complex") is the sexualization of under-aged male characters, the name coming from the lead child actor from Tetsujin-nijūhachi-gō. Example: Papa to Kiss in the Dark
* Harem is a genre which focuses on a male character surrounded by the romance of multiple female characters. Typically, the male cohabits with at least one female.[25] It is usually marketed as a Shōnen or Seinen.[26] Examples: Ranma ? or Love Hina.
* Reverse Harem reverses the gender balance in harem, where a female character is romantically involved with many male characters. It is more often than not a Shōjo or Josei Anime. Examples: Ouran High School Host Club or Fruits Basket.
* Magical Girlfriend is more accurately termed Exotic Girlfriend. This genre focuses on the romantic relationship (and cohabitation) between a man and at least one woman of extraordinary origins such as alien (Tenchi Muyo!, Urusei Yatsura), supernatural (Oh My Goddess!), or technological (Chobits). Often considered a subgenre of Harem.[27][28]
* Ecchi is Japanese for "indecent sexuality", derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the letter "H", (the origin of the term is not well known, even in Japan. See main article for more information.) Sexual humor and fan service are prevalent. Examples: Oruchuban Ebichu or He Is My Master.
* Hentai is Japanese for "abnormal" or "perverted". This term is synonymous to pornography or erotica, as hentai content specifically consists of such. Examples: La Blue Girl or Bible Black.
* Shōjo-ai or Yuri is Japanese for "girl-love". These focus on love and romance between female characters. It is often being replaced by the term "Girls Love" (GL). Yuri is like Shōjo-ai, but sometimes involves older characters or explicit sexual activity. Examples: Revolutionary Girl Utena or Kannazuki no Miko.
* Shōnen-ai is Japanese for 'boy-love'. These focus on love and romance between male characters. The term "Shōnen-ai" is being phased out in Japan due to its other meaning of pederasty, and is being replaced by the term "Boys Love" (BL). Examples: Loveless or Gravitation
* Yaoi is like "Shōnen-ai" but often involving older characters and explicit sexual activity. Examples: Sensitive Pornograph

Hope this helps.

Seinen is the type of anime that's targeted towards adult males.

Josei is the type of anime that is targeted towards adult females.

Harem is the type of anime with one male character and several female characters. Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina are two exaples of harem-type anime.

I don't know about the terms for types of yaoi or yuri, though.

Seinen- anime or manga aimed at 18-30 y/o audience

Josei- anime or manga aimed at late teens to adult audience. Basically the counterpart of Seinen, but for females.

Harem- harem is a term used to describe anime or manga where a single, average male character is surrounded by (usually 3 to 7)attractive females, most of whom are romantically interested in the main character
Reverse Harem is when a single, average girl is surrounded by guys.

And I don't think there is another name for yaoi and yuri.

Seinen - targeted at an 18–30 year old male audience
- ranging from the avant-garde to the pornographic.
- Examples include 3×3 Eyes, Boogiepop Phantom, Chobits, Elfen Lied, Fate/stay night, Oh My Goddess!, Trigun, xxxHolic, and Zero no Tsukaima

Josei - Same as Seinen, but for a female audience

Harem - Usually, there is a single average male character is surrounded by numerous (usually 3 to 7) attractive females, most of whom are romantically interested in the main character

Yaoi - Boy on boy
*Shounen-ai - a term that deals with love between young men

Yuri - Same as yaoi, but with females
*Shoujo-ai - Same as yuri

Seinen means teacher- like in Naruto "Ero-Seinen!!!" means erotic teacher- it's also the male form of josei: usually kinda porno-like

Josei- that's a type of manga genre right.....it's characteried by more realistic romance and more mature content than shoujo

Harem: a genre in which a guy is surrounded by many girls and reverse harem is when a girl is surrounded by many girls

type of yaoi: usually called BL or Boys Love

yuri: called GL or Girls Love

Um.........and I know all this cause of a couple of years of experience......not cause I looked it up or anything

But I am a yaoi fangirl!!!! YEA!!!

try wikipedia or any anime based website. like shojobeat.
other than tht ask some japanese or manga loving people that u know what they mean. that should help.
