Anime is going to die??!!!!?!

Question: I read in an Anime magazine that Anime is going to shambles because fans and hardcore fans watched dubbed episodes and download episodes of Anime from japan. Anime companies in Viz Media licenses Anime, but now its like they dont have to. What do you think? should people stop downloading Anime and manga chapter from japan, because it is illegal!

Non-japanese people downloading fansubs does not hurt the anime industry in japan, It hurts the english distributers, like ADV or Viz Media for example. When japanese people download anime, they can avoid buying dvds of finished series, bypass commercials, burn to dvd themselves, and more. This hurts the japanese anime studios, because all their work is being pirated by the intended consumers, the japanese.

So when I or you download fansubbed anime, we do not hurt the japanese anime industry. Instead, we hurt the american industry that releases dvds. So yes, we fans are killing the american anime industry by downloading fansubs.

A possible solution is that japanese studios offer high-quality anime downloads when the anime is released in japan. This will also hurt english licensors, but it will benefit the Japanese anime studios.

In my opinion, its ok to download and watch fansubbed anime, unless its already available in english. If you can buy it in english from dark horse, adv, viz, or another company like that, you should pay for it. I personally download fansubs to anime that isnt licensed yet, because its faster, and i can watch anime that I normally wouldnt. But, if it comes out on dvd in english, I will go buy it. This way i support it in any way I can.

So basically, non-Japanese watching fansubs will kill the american licensed anime market, not the japanese producers. No matter how popular fansubs are in america, it will never hurt the japanese producers. It will only hurt the companies that license it here, like Viz Media.

In conclusion, anime fansubs are killing the NON-JAPANESE market for anime, but are not hurting the japanese producers at all. So no, anime isnt dying, but english licensed dubbed anime is.

Anime is far from being dead.

But people need to stop downloading it illegally, it really pisses me off!

i really dunno i mean it's free! XD but ppl should really stop downloading anime/manga chapters though...that goes for me too..>.<'
i dont want anime to die!!

That sucks, but if they want us to stop downloading, they should stop making it so conveinent. >.>

edit: just for the record, I don't download anything. Downloading stuff scares me >.<

it will be good for people to stop downloading illegaly but we both know that people wont stop doing that they will keep downloading illeagaly

If it's out there it will be consumed. And, if a company wants to survive, it will provide content. Even with all the illegal downloads, they still make money hand over fist.

Anime is not going to die for a while.

Of course it's bad that this is happening to the anime industry, but i dont think that 'anime is going to die'. The same thing is happening in the music industry, what with downloading. Is the music industry going to die too?

I don't think people should necessarily stop downloading anime and manga, more so that the companies licensing the anime should find a way around it, like they've tried doing with downloaded music.

If anime makers can survive on just the ad and subscription revenue from their magazines and what they show on tv, and in the movies, then they'll be fine. If they need money from DVD sales and such, then they might not be. Fan subs/dubs take money from all of those things. The issue is a bit complicated, but you can probably boil it down to a simple subtraction problem. Are the companies losing more money on the "fans" than they are making on the fans? If so, you can bet they're going to do something. Their first action won't be to go out of business though.

dude thats bad for anybody who does that, i mean think wut the fans will do if something like that happens cuz someone decides to do something as stupid as that!!!!!!
but if that does happen i (an anime fan) just might be one of those who get mad!!!!!!

Anime will not die, it will live on forever.

I agree with you on that last part though. We anime fans need to be more considerate and purchase some merchandise of our favorite anime every once in a while. I know it is expensive, but if you enjoyed a series online, there is no reason for you not to purchase a DVD every once in a while. That's the very least us fans should do.

Anime will never ever die!!!!

What they should do though is release DVD series for a longer amount of time so I don't have to pay 5 times retail to get them when they're no longer being sold in stores.

anime is already dead, the shows that you watch (that u think is anime) are just copycats now....

Thats fine with me
