What made Godzilla from a "bad" monster to "good"?!

Question: Godzilla I believe initially in the first movie was a "bad" monster, but later in the series he became a "good" monster and helped to defeat the bad guys.

What happened to change his heart?

The Godzilla from the 1998 film was "Good" and when it sees his kids dead he become angry and starts to become a "Bad" guy i think he's both. I guess when the people see godzilla for the first time the people think he will eat them up so they try and shoot godzilla for it and godzilla turns angry and becomes bad.

My Thoughts
We should blame the humans for making godzilla a bad guy and if they were kind to godzilla he will trust the humans and become good but in the 1998 movie when godzilla and nick first looked eye to eye godzilla was testing nick to see if he trusts him but the US army commanded the men to take down godzilla.

He turned to religion lol.

I guess when the creators of Godzilla saw the appeal to children, they decided it would be best to make Godzilla a hero. The only times he isn't a hero monster is when he is the only monster in the film (i.e. Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla 1985, Godzilla [american version]).

But in the films, I don't think he ever really became a "good guy". I think he just wupped up on the other monsters to remain the King of the Monsters. King of the Hill sorta thing.
