I have heard about it on another chat group I belong to, but I cannot tell you much as i do not know the story. Here are a few excerpts from the various emails. I hope they help you:
G4TV America has just stated that Akira will be made into a live action movie by Warner Brothers for 2009. They have gotten the rights to do it and that Leonardo DeCaprio has been recruited to be in it. It may me a rumor but I thought if you are interested you might want to watch for it.
