No... weren't you around for the Pokemon craze? Dragonball Z? Sailor Moon? And even before that there was anime like Astroboy, Kimba the White Lion, and others. Naruto is far from being the very first anime. Although for some people, it's the first anime they ever really liked.

no, it is not the first.It is however, the first japanese ninja manga to be made into anime.

no..... naruto is not the very first anime....its animation is awesome while the i have seen animations of other animes with older and poorer animations... example is hana yori dango... its animation sucks because i believe that its very, very, very old....... waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy old...........
