Edward Elric: The main protagonist, Edward ("Ed") Elric is the famous Fullmetal Alchemist, though Al is occasionally mistaken for him because of his armored body. He has a prosthetic automail right arm and left leg, is of short stature, and typically reacts in an exaggerated manner to any remarks about his height. He is known for being the youngest State Alchemist, gaining this title at the age of 12.
Alphonse Elric: Alphonse ElricAlphonse, often nicknamed "Al," is Fullmetal Alchemist's secondary protagonist; he is Edward's younger brother and the narrator of the series. For most of the series his soul is trapped in a large suit of armor, causing other characters throughout the series to confuse Al with the "Fullmetal" Alchemist. Members of the State Military.In the fictional country of Amestris, the Führer (the governing leader with the official title of President) has command of both the country and the military. Since Edward Elric is a member of the Amestris Military, the army and its personnel play a very pivotal role in Hiromu Arakawa’s anime and manga series Fullmetal Alchemist. The various members of the State Military provide the lens through which the story and plot are advanced, and also provide insight to both the Ishval War (spelled as the Ishbal War in the Funimation adaptation of the anime) and the Lior War. The Ishval War, in particular, serves as a defining moment for many of the State Military characters, as most of the members that have since been introduced were involved heavily in the conflict.
Edward Elric, he is the short blond alchemist. He wears a red cloak and has an automail arm and leg. Ed became a state alchemist at age 12 and is called a genius. People call him the FullMetal Alchemist.
Alphonse Elric, he is the big armored guy. Al is Edward's younger brother (by a year) and is normally mistaken to be the FullMetal Alchemist. He is currently just a soul in an armored body.
