I'll go with Danger Mouse. Mighty Mouse became famous in the 40s, after starring in a number of cartoons by Paul Terry, and then expanding his career into comic books. Mighty Mouse was also famous in Central and South America, where he was known as "Super Raton."

Danger Mouse became very popular in Britain, but is still not as well known in the U.S.A. as he deserves to be. "Famous" is a relative term, but I would count a large following in England (or Mexico or Brazil) as fame, even if a character isn't as well known in the States.
