aqnime is the animated form of Japanese comics called manga. Anime is well thought out drawn completely different and comes from japan. cartoons are just simple drawing with hardly any detail from the USA and other countries. and anime follows a story line were as cartoons often don't. Their is a big diff and if your friends don t think so there idiots.

anime from japan n looks more detailed

Anime is better.
The artwork on anime is very detailed while cartoon art is very simple and childish.
Animes are usually based off of manga while cartoons are just thought of.
Animes are usually dramatic & romantic while cartoons are silly & stupid.
And animes are from Japan while cartoons are from America and other countries.

I know there is but it's just so hard putting it into words!

aniem is reference to cartoon mad ein jappan, the drawing is more detailed and is made of a different style, on contrast to cartoon, that is made in USA, that is from a totally differetn drawing style, and less details.

well in my opinion n its that cartoons can have more of a variety of shapes and sizes for a variety of people and can be less detailed. whereas anime is closer to what people actually look like and is more detail e.g the eyes. Dexters laborartory seems to come to mind here the mother stand on the points of triangular feet and her leg speed is very fast but she walks slow you wouldnt see something like that in anime. as i said thats just my opinion =P

first place of origin second artistic style such as in anime lines are thinner they have ussualy a plot kanji included and the words they use if u translate from original japanese

Anime is generally more deeply concieved in terms of a storyline. It is much like a very drawn out movie in which the classic rise and fall of action, the character development, and what could be called multiple climaxs' occur. It also follows a set plot unlike many cartoons where each episode is a new event.

anime is usually from japan or asia.. while cartoons are from other continents or countries or cities (well, you get the point)..

anime is more detailed and they use a wide variety of colors...

anime usually comes from a manga (japanese comic).. not always though..

well, these are pretty much all the differences i found.. hope i helped you!!

=P

Honestly, some people in America or outside of Japan have developed their own definition of anime. Anime is short for animation. Cartoons are also animation. It's like saying otaku. In America, we think otaku as an extreme fanboy/girl of some series usually only anime/manga/Japanese stuff. In Japan, some believe it is an insult due to the past use of it. It can be classified as a lonely, obessive, and creepy person who rarely leaves hte house.

But i understand where you're coming from. I know many classify anime as from Japan, well drawn, more in depth, but you need to think about how each country does their own style. Americans have the 2-D or 3-D cartoons while Japan has CG-ing and more details.

Ha. I think i went off topic but back to the original question, I kinda think they're both the same. Anime= Animation. Cartoons have animation. They're both created almost the same, but it's merely a person's opinion to say what they think about it. But i do know where you are and everyone else is coming from.
