Everyone think I'm weird for liking anime/manga/Japan??!
Question: I recently started to enjoy watching anime and manga, but have always liekd Japan. But my friends think I'm a real loser for liking it. My group of friends are people who would really HATE anime and stuff. My family is the same, my brothers call me asian nerd, and I'm not even asian. I hate it DX My best friend use to like anime and manga, but then she started disliking it cos she thought it was really gay and loosery. Shed rather be 'popular'. So I'm really confused on what to do D: I'd rather be free, but if everyone knew I like anime, they'd all tease me. Help?

If you like anime, thats NOT a bad thing. Every individual has their own interests, just yours arent the same as the crowds. If its really that bad, just don't mention it. You can like anime/manga/japan and not tell everyone. But even so, it's something youve found an interest in and thats not a bad thing.
One day, you'll look back and see thats its good to be different and not follow the crowd.

Why should you care? It's your life, you live it the way you want it. If your friends and family don't like anime, that's their business (and too bad for them), but you shouldn't let them influence you through name-calling and peer pressure. Everyone has their own interests and hobbies.
I used to be the same way but then i found a bunch of friends who love anime, what i did was i started hanging out with them more and more, i kept hanging out with my other friends but not as much. My adivce to u is find a group of people who like anime like u do and hang out with them, and don't be worried over what other people think be proud that u like anime its nothing to be ashamed of.

There's nothing about liking anime and manga. I love anime and manga too and Japan is my favorite country. My friends make fun of me for liking it but I don't even care. There are lots of good in anime and manga than just gay and loosely things. My best sugest to you is just do what yourself want and like there's nothing funny about it and by the way Japan is one Great Country with lots of technologies, good culture/treditional, and good people.
I don't think it's nerdy at all. Japan is amazing! There's a lot of people that are fascinated by the culture, myself included. And I'm not so much into the magna and anime as much as the architecture and natural beauty of the country, but let's face it: Japan as a whole is just AMAZING!!! So here's what you do: Tell your friends and family to step outside their little comfort zoney zone and get some freaking culture!!!!!!!

Well I live in Japan and there is nothing wrong with that... Japan is a very cool place. I have never really liked anime myself, but that doesnt mean that I dont like people that do like it. I dont know how long you have been friends with this person but it sounds like she is not a very good friend is she puts you down for your personal interests. Popularity is overrated and the people that are popular are usually unhappy. You can be popular and still retain the inner YOU. In highschool I never went with waht everyone else was doing, I was just creative and myself and everyone liked me. I just think that you should figure out who your real friends are and maybe start hanging out at a comic book store or somehting and meet people that have the same interests as you. I hope you can find what you need to be happy with your life, yourself and your friends. You shouldnt care what others think of you, just do what makes you happy. If you cant be happy in your lifestyle then how can you be happy with anything?

Wow, your friends are probably stupid then (no offence). It's just personal preference and/or hobbies so anyone can do what they like. Who cares what they call you anyway..think of it this way, if your friends liked skateboarding and you call them emos and low-lifes, how would they feel?-They'll have the same reaction as you.

look dude im almost 18 and i still like animes!!...people think its weird but i dont give a damn...its so much more better to watch animes than cheesy daily soaps...if it hadnt been for animes i wouldnt have been able to decide what i wanted to do in the future...animation...plus its fun to watch and kinda keeps me happy if im feeling too down......so dont listen to what ppl say do whats right....animes are made by adults i hope you know that, and not kids...

First off you’re asking if it is alright to like anime on a anime blog, so of course everyone is going tell you is okay, but you’re the only person who can decided if you enjoy them enough to take the criticism. But Anime is growing in popularity every year; Sun Coast, FYE, and Best Buy all have an Anime Section in their stores now and there are many stores in you local mall that sell anime shirts and memorabilia (Just go look on the walls at Hot Topic) So I don’t believe there is anything to be ashamed of, but I have a bias opinion.
I'm sorry to say this but u're friends are stupid it isn't bad to like anime i mean I'm crazy about anime/manga/japan .
every time i hear something about anime/manga or japan i go crazy but my friends don't say that i'm a looser or something some of them like anime and some of them hate it but they never say something to me

no, ur not weird at all! i like anime/manga/japan too~ I admit, anime/manga can be a bit gay and loosery sometimes, but if you find the right thing to watch, there's not problem. Also, if ppl think ur weird for liking anime/manga/japan, then why don't they think other people are weird for their particular interests. I mean, there are people who really like certain sports, certain books, certain movies, certain celebrties, people, etc. I don't think the people who think you are weird are being fair to you at all~~ Good luck!
i am kind of the same. i love japan and wish to go to tokyo one day. i am addicted to manga and everything japenese people do. it awesome. don't listen to the other people. read what you want to read watch what you want to watch. if people think your wierd just because you like somethiing from a different culture then they're not really your friends.
