Question: Well there aren't really any mainstream comic book publishers in the UK anymore. 2000AD still gets published, but isn't really a Superhero comic book.
Marvel and DC do publishing monthly collections that appear in newsagents, but these aren't for the direct market and tend to be months if not years behind in some cases. Plus they don't follow the whole story.
I'm a Marvel, I focus mainly on team collections so X-Men and The Avengers along with Runways and Captain America.
There aren't really many hero teams or books based in the UK. Excalibur was based in Scotland and then London and did feature some British characters (although the series has now ended again).
Marvel and DC tend to be the highest sellers and I think Marvel tend to be at the top of the charts the majority of the time sales wise, but not by much.
If you are just coming back to comics you might want to try the Ultimate Marvel series.
