Does anyone remember "The Freak Brothers" crazy comic?!

Question: Remember reading this when 17 or 18 and made me laugh so much then, maybe wouldn't find funny now but was so mad and they were always on some "trip"?

The title was actually "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" and it was written and drawn by Gilbert Shelton, who also created Wonder Warthog. There was also a spin-off title:
"Fat Freddy's Cat." The Freak Brothers were undoubtedly the most successful of all of the underground comix which started in 1969 through 192, the hayday of the underground movement.

(Addendum added later:) Freewheeling Frankllin was the third Freak brother.

Basil Wolverton did not "illustrate a Bible," but he did do some illustrations for some religious tracts, including a few in which he had to provide images which would be close to thins described in the Book of Revelations. Since he had also drawn a fair amount of horror and science fiction comics before the Comic Code was established, he had no problem coming up with some very disturbing illustrations.

You were eighteen? My gosh. I was fourteen in 1969 when I discovered them. I remember Fat Freddy and his cat, who had a spinoff strip, and Phineas, who had the curly hair and beard. I don't remember the name of the biker with the straight hair and mustache.

Gilbert Shelton lives in France now, because he hates our drug laws so much. I forget what Crumb is doing -- did you read him? Their Wikipedia articles are reasonably accurate and up-to-date.

Incidently, most of the Freak Brothers fans I knew were also into Basil Wolverton. Far from being a freak he did a humorous comic book in the 1940's called Powerhouse Pepper which was apparently an influence on Shelton. He also created Lena the Hyena for Li'l Abner, did some bubble-gum cards and nearf the end of his life illustrated a Bible because he was a Christian. But if you ever get the chance check him out.

Hah.

You must be as old as I am, in Human years.

Yes, I remember; mostly B&W, and if one ran short of Zig-Zags, one could smoke them.

(Recall: "Eggs Ackley"? "Ruby & the Dykes"???)
