What happened to the good cartoons?!

Question: They have been done away with in favor of new politically correct characters. Give me the good old days when cartoons were drawn, not made by a computer. Give me the days when the characters would get hit on the head with a hammer, fall off a cliff, get blown up and look all charred. Then they would be fine in the next frame and it was right back to the madcap chase. Those were the days. Good wholesome cartoon violence. It's a shame there were so many people with good intentions that thought it was all too violent for the precious little kiddies. I watched and laughed at the classics as I was growing up and I sware I have never hit anybody on the head with a hammer, pushed anyone off a cliff or blown anyone up. Although I might, if I ever find out who took my cartoons away!

Political Correctness

money got to everyone.

good question i miss fog horn leg horn

I wonder the same question but the first answer was correct, polictal correctness. Some people now adays are afraid of the littlest things on tv. If you think about it, our generations of Tom Jerry, Flinstones, Scooby Doo? We didn't have as much violence as we do now. And thats being blamed on video games. The next decade, they'll have those banned.

Most have been replaced by 3D animation. As the media industry does more and more, originality gets harder to hit. I think that the "good cartoons" are now considered old hat.

Everything done by the media is trying to top everything else. The old cartoons were made for people to have fun, by people having fun.

The old cartoons were also created by people with imaginations. Today; we are so entertained by the media we have no imagination left.

There's still some good stuff out there. You just have to dig through all the crap to find it.

Among my current faves include:
Justice League Unlimited (even though it was cancelled, I've got the box set DVDs)
Batman the Animated Series (ditto)
Batman Beyond (same)
The Boondocks - one of the best written and funniest
South Park - still one of the best written and funniest
Family Guy - has its moment
Drawn Together - sick and depraved, but has its moments
The Simpsons - they celebrated their 400th episode not too long ago. Kudos!

Good cartoons are still around, but they’re just different from ones in the past. As for everything else on this planet cartoons has evolved too. 10 year ago, no one would have ever thought animes would be so popular in the USA today, as the society of young people looked for animated story to connect too, they found it in the radical style and character of anime. 10 years from now you’ll be looking cartoons that are total unique to that period wondering what happened to the quality cartoons series of this generation. Cartoon will continue to evolve as long a society continues to change.

Monopoly Capitalism. The good cartoons have all been created by trusted directors. In the case of Warner Brothers, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and Hanna Barbara weren't given that much money relatively speaking and the tradeoff was they could do what they like. Maybe Steven Spielberg has that power these days, and Tim Burton and John Lessiter (still), And the Japanese Anime directors. Nobody else is going to get the backing without having their brilliant (and some of them aren't -- I love Science Fiction and am busily trying to forget Treasure Planet) ideas "fixed". It's bad enough when it happens to live action. In animation it leads to the situation we have now.

y ur one hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahh...

There are some good points here. I miss Gargoyles and I don't care much for anime. There are few cartoons worth watching, but there are some, though I think family guy is overated. I think Justice League went before its time. I do like the Avengers DVDs the Doomsday one wasn't bad. At least most of our favorites can be found on DVD. I would also add Clone Wars and Starblazers to those worth watching.
