You could if you wanted to. It really depends if you would like them or not. The fillers range from episode 136-220. The fillers really aren't important,and pretty much just show Naruto and the other getting stronger and going on missions. As well as creating stronger bonds with his friends. The fillers are pretty much just more mission and adevtutres that Naruto goes through.
The fillers really aren't that important and could be skiped if you wanted to. Although sometimes they do show important background imformatian.
So,I would watch them though.

No I wouldn't skip the first half of Naruto because that's where you see the bonding between friends as well as the struggles and losses and the BEST fights (well... besides Shippuuden that is).
There is a LARGE number of episodes that are fillers, I don't know when they start but I would skip over them.

you could.(like me) but it helps to know how things got started-like the whole Sasuke being EVIL thing or the Akutski clan and how Sakura is finally worth something.
To fully understand it you need to watch Naruto anime part 1. If you watched it without part 1 you would probably be going ".........What?" lol.
You could, but then you wouldn't have any clear understanding of how and why the "bad guys" are bad. Or how the dynamics between the main character and bad guys were formed. Also, you would miss out on explanations of the fundamentals and backstory.
