When it concerns binding, she thinks that I'm not appreciating what God has given me. She think cosplaying is a dumb/freaky hobby, and I'm having a hard time explaining it to her.

just be honest to your mom about your feelings towards cosplaying =p
i had this same situation too but when i explained to my mom about everything (about the looks,expenses and all), she started to support me with my cosplaying =p
just have confidence in cosplaying =p
you're not alone! there's a lot of cosplayers out there =p
Just say that it is where you dress up as your favorite anime character. Or dress up as your favorite Japanese cartoon character.
