no, he is not a hero, nor is he a anti - hero, he kills all sorts of Crimanals and plays Juge, Jury and Executionar!. when there are crimals out there that while bad really dont deserve to die!. look at the supervillians Catwomen and mad Hatter from Batman or Lizard and Green Goblin 2 (Harry) from Spiderman would it be right for Punisher to kill off in one of these bad guys!. No because they truly arn't evil while they done some bad things yes there Crimes wouldnt fit the punishment!. in spiderman case they are people who need help!. The world isn't Black and White like the punisher makes it!. The Superheros Black Cat, and Gambit, have been know to commit crimes on occusion does that mean the Punisher should off them because he thinks so!. It tends to be really complicated in the fact that there are gang kids who need help and have probablems and the punishers view is just kill them!. while an anti hero is More like Wolverine, Gambit, Blade, who kill only murders and only kill when they have too, or it can be a Hero who does nonheroic things to help people!. Like the superhero Green Arrow in smallville, who is stealing items from crimals would count has an anti hero because ever Hero believes stealing is wrong, yet by doing this it keeps guns, drugs, and drug money away from evil people!. anti -hero is pretty much saving people in a nonheroic way!. so no the punisher is not a hero!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
That's kind of a tough one!. You might as well ask the same about the Toxic Avenger!. I'll have to go with anti-hero!. He's like an extreme version of Batman without a mask or cape!. I know he wants to do the right thing, but his methods are highly questionable!. He's trigger-happy, merciless, and has a tendancy to go too far when fighting crime!. I know Superman would disapprove, and I'm pretty sure Batman would be displeased as well, but I digress!. There are better ways to fight crime than murder, extortion, live incineration, and kidnapping, among other things!. So yeah, Punisher is an anti-hero!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I would go with "hero"!. Despite his methods, the Punisher is always on the right side of the issue!. I assume the question is up for debate because of the way he fights crime in comparison to other comic book heroes!.
If one were to examine the history of the hero as far back as say, Greek mythology, then one would find that heroes of old, (the original hereos that is),more resemble the Punisher than guys like Spider-Man or Superman!.
Being the Judge, Jury, and Executioner was never a problem for Heracles or Odysseus because right was right and wrong was wrong!. Being brutal and savage in battle was the mark of a great warrior in those times!.
Nowadays, with the present legal system, some would call The Punisher an Anti-hero, but that's only because of the confines of our social standards!.

of course he is!!!!!!! he brings punishment to those who otherwise would not get it! he is the best of 'em all! no benefit of powers, just a lot of skull cracking goodness!. he could fall into the anti-hero column, but at the end of the day, he works with the good guys!!!! read 'what if the punisher killed daredevil' and 'what if the punisher killed the marvel universe' two great comics!!!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com
