Well right now the most popular things out are probably Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Bleach but theres lots more good anime series out there, heres a small list:
Deathnote: very good series that out!.
Bloodplus: vampire action
Trinity Blood: A very good vampire anime
Trigun: Cool fighting scenes with gun, very good anime
Get Backers: Theres two seasons, comedy and action
Black Cat: Very good story line, lots of action
School Days: A romance story with a twisted ending
Elfen Lied: Hot girl that kills
Ruroni Kenshin (Samarai X): Really good samarai anime
Basilisk: One of the best animes ive ever watched
Code Gease: I havent watched it but i hear its really good
Samarai 7: a really good anime
Inuyasha: A long series, very good story and fighting
Hellsing: Another Vampire anime that really good
Samarai Champloo: Very cool samarai anime
Cowboy bebop: Not my cup of tea, but i will admit its popular
Burst Angel: Good story, funny, action, very good anime
Gunslinger Girl: Girls that know how to kill, very cool
Full Metal Alchemist: Very good story, good fighting scenes

No, but I could probably recommend some steaming piles of anime dog-doo that are like Pokemon, DigiMon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. What do the characters in those series do!? They stand around playing the games that the series is based on!. How sad is that!?
