Comic books, getting started, not superheroes?!

Question: Comic books, getting started, not superheroes!?
ok, today i ditched a computer class that i have, and went walking around the area!. i stumbled upon a comic book shop!. i walked in, and immediately i wanted to be a part of it!. all of the colorful pages, posters, action figures got to me!. i spent hours in there!. so i was flipping through some comics, mainly super hero ones!. they all looked great!.

now next time i go, i want to be a little more educated and want to buy a few comics!.

the whole super hero super powers thing is cool, but i dont know i would much rather read a good series non super hero related!. something closer to reality!. any suggestions!? maybe some links!? something fairly new please, so i dont have to catch up on it that much!. if there are some superhero comics that I MUST read, then please mention them!. thanks allot!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Superhero comics you must read: Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns (the first series trade paperback, released in the 80's)
THE WATCHMEN by Alan Moore
V FOR VENDETTA by Alan Moore
Alan Moore's SWAMP THING
EX MACHINA
HELLBOY
MARVELS but Busiek and Ross
KINGDOM COME by Waid and Ross
Byrne's original run of SHE-HULK
The Batman graphic novels THE KILLING JOKE and ARKHAM ASYLUM

Non-superhero greats!.!.!.Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN series (probably the best comics ever, in my opinion)
LUCIFER
Garth Ennis's PREACHER
Frank Miller's SIN CITY and 300
100 BULLETS
The Exterminators
Hellblazer
Any of Daniel Clowes graphic novels
Too Much Coffee Man

And a couple of really great books about comics -
SUPERHEROES AND PHILOSOPHY edited by Tom and Matt Morris
HOW TO READ SUPERHERO COMICS AND WHY by Geoff Klock

That'll keep you busy for a while!.!.!.also, don't get into comics because you think you'll make money off of it!.!.!.the speculator's market is a big myth!.!.!.enjoy comics for themselves!.!.!.if you find yourself at a comic convention and you know you have to buy the tee-shirt that says "I like my books thin with lots of pictures", you know you're hooked!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The MAX Punisher series, V for Vendetta, Preacher, Fables, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, Lucifer, 100 Bullets, Fell, Criminal, The Walking Dead, anything from the Hellboy universe!.

That's all the non superhero comics I could think of at the moment, hah!. That's a mix of crime comics, horror comics and fantasy comics!. They are also comics aimed towards adults, definitely not for kids!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm not sure what would be considered non-superhero but in that slight area I will recommend both the Darkness by Top Cow(the most recent volume is on the 3rd issue but it ships late) or IDW's newest mini series Mack Bolan, the Executioner: Devil's Tools!.

I also recommend Marvel comics Captain America by Ed Brubaker!. It's about the best thing Marvel prints these days!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ok, some "real world" type comics for ya:

Maus A Survivor's Tale Book 1: My Father Bleeds History
Maus A Survivor's Tale Book 2: And Here My Troubles Began
Strangers in Paradise
Kingdom Come (yeah, it's a superhero book, but it's uber-realistic and very, very good)
The Watchmen (though it's about superheroes, only one person in the entire series has any kind of super power; great story)
Bone (it may seem kind of kiddy, but the story is DEEP)
Planet Hulk (you should be able to find it in a collected edition; very good story)

All I can think of at the moment!. Hope that helps!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
