It's an interesting idea for a show where the whole premise is that everyone is playing a MMORPG!.
My suggestion though!? Stay away from it, unless you want to make a pretty large investment of time!.
The !.hack unvierse is some tangled up that to be able to understand it all you need to play a bunch of games AND watch a bunch of different series AND read a bunch of manga AND check out some of the light novels!. There isn't a single medium where you can experience the whole thing (like you can't just read the entire story, or play the entire story, or watch the entire story- you need to do a little bit of ALL)!. If you don't do this, you will be confused at points, and you won't get as much closure- making it not very worthwhile!.
If you are looking for an anime that is set in a MMORPG-like world, I'd suggest trying out the Tower of Druaga!. It's a currently ongoing anime, but you can watch the subs LEGALLY for free here: http://youtube!.com/user/TTODruagaAE !. It's much better than !.hack in my opinion, especially the humor if you are an avid gamer and anime watcher!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
