Question: Does Misato really give a crap about Shinji!?
This is my first time reading the manga (***I've seen the series) and well!.!.!.I'm talking about this part:

If you read that page and to like page 25 (it's only a couple pages in)!.!.!.is Misato serious or is she trying to manipulate Shinji so he'll come back to NERV!?
I remember in the anime she did seem manipulative but on the other hand I thought she also cared about Shinji as a friend not just a subordinate!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I feel @ this point in the series she is not ready to truly care about him yet!. her emotions are still raw from dealing with Dad stuff and Kaji, she doesn't know how to let him in emotionally!. Their relationship is best described, as in the series, as the hedgehogs dilemma!. Two hedgehogs may want to be close, but all those quills!.!.!.
But it takes time, at first he was just a job to her, she is very dedicated to her work at NERV, but feelings for him develop!. Eventual it gets to the point where she would lay down her own life for his!. She loves him dearly!.
Edit: maybe she slapped him @ that point for being ungrateful, after all she did open her home to him, I think she thinks she is trying to care for him, but I don't think Shinji was so very off base @ that point, maybe she slapped him because the truth hurts!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Misato, like most of Evangelion's cast, is psychologically screwed up!. She's not manipulative, she just needs people to comfort her because being a higher-up in NERV is stressful as hell, as you'll see more and more later!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think she does!. i think she was trying to tell shinji pain of being alone and the happiness that can be when u are together with some1 so u can share ur pain, pain loves company!. it eases it thus makes living easier to do!. she was relating after she lost her dad and pain she felt until she found pen pen to stay with her!. this soon makes shinji feel that he is not alone so he can return!.
