Why do people always assume that anime is for kids?!
Question: Why do people always assume that anime is for kids!?
I mean, seriously!. When there's blood and guts flying everywhere, and characters are cussing their mouths off, that usually means that it's not meant for children!. Yet I still get people asking me if these shows are on disney!.

They just don't understand!.!.!.When they see an anime for the first time of course they asume it's for children-it's animated for crying out loud!.!.!.everyone has their prejudices!.!.!.!.In my case,I explain patiently that anime is a special kind of art in Japan ment not only for kids,but for any age and gender!.!.!.!.

think about animation in america!. all american animation is geared towards children, right!? at least all the ones i've ever seen!. This problem is nonexistent inJapan, where MOST anime is geared towards adults( there are a lot of anime for children too) and everyone knows it because it is so commonplace, and even in the english dubbed anime watched in america, it is on adult swim, fuse, sci-fi channel and so on!. the problem is i'm betting the people assuming anime is for kids, they are american, where anime now in the last 10 years has become popular, and basically all americans grew up watching disney animation and such!.

It's simple exposure!. Most of what is presented to the mainstream in the U!.S!. is kid shows!. Since that is what people are primarily exposed to that is what the perception becomes!.
People make generalizations!. Everyone does!. You can't help it!. It's how we deal with ancillary stimulus!. Casual exposure to something, whether it be anime, a sport you aren't familiar with, music you don't follow, a style of dress or any other trend that you don't follow, leaves an impression that leaves a mark about that 'thing' in your mind and influences how you perceive it going forward!. Anime is for kids like soccer is boring and all southern music is for hicks and rednecks!. With nothing but casual exposure you don't see the subtleties, the nuances or become familiar with the wider variations of the subject!. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just the way it is!.
Answer those who think your hobby is only for children honestly and without being defensive about it and who knows; you may expose them to the better side of things and end up creating a new fan!. ;)Www@Enter-QA@Com

The samething happens with video games, alot of people think all the "cartoon type" stuff is just for kids!. I think it's just really stupid of others to assume that just because they used to watch cartoons or anime or play games when they were younger that once they "grow up" all that stuff they used to do is just for kids!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
They're probably only aware of the very popular anime in America that are on cartoon network and etc!. So they probably only know of pokemon and other children anime shows!.!.!. that's probably why they think anime is for kids!.!.!. Because they are uncultured and naive people!. People always think that every anime is Pokemon and it drives me insane!. first things first naruto isnt a kids anime second n japan there no such thing as a kid anime all ages watch all different kinds of anime(example there an 8 yr old in japan that watches death note and a 28 yr old that watches pokemon) it is a cultural thing like here when u think of cartoon u think of kid thats y it all has to do with how the cultures see them n most of us americans are as stupid as a clump of dirt and dont want to learn something new cuz its too much work also here in america most get edited the crap out them (example goku cusses like a sailor on shore leave lol)Www@Enter-QA@Com
