Either by medical, technological or magical means, the mutant loses access to their super powers and becomes, essentially, a regular person!.

Sometimes in the X-Men comics there are inhibitors like metal collars that can negate a mutant's powers, or if Rogue were to touch someone for too long, she could absorb their powers and they would be temporarily powerless, or dead!.!.!.

At the end of House of M, Scarlet Witch cast a magic spell that removed the powers of most mutants in the Marvel Universe - leaving only 198 with powers!. it mean's they lost there superpowers, Most of them lost there power because the Scarlet Witch alter realitiy makeing a world where mutants were the domint species, and Human's were the mionity, this story is called the House of M, the alter reality ends when the scarlet witch say's no more mutants, and take away the x-gene from over 90% of the mutant population makeing them normal humans!. that is called the Decimation!. that is how most mutants are depowered, however there are others who are depowered due to the Mutant Cure created in astonishing x-men!. depowered mean's they lose the x-gene, so they go from mutant to human!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
