Answers:
A trade is short for trade paperback or tpb!. A trade paperback is a collection of a bunch of comic book issues reprinted and rebound as one paperback book!. It's a nice cheap easy way to read a story or read issues of a particular comic that are either hard to find, expensive, or both!.

Pre-Crisis & Post-Crisis reffers to Dc comics "Crisis on Infinite Earths"

Crisis on Infinite Earths was a massive DC crossover that lasted 12 issues in 1985 for DC's 50th aniversary and somehow involved characters from every, or just about every DC comic book ever made!. Basically the bosses at DC decided that their continuity was too complicated and that there were some mistakes or contradictions, or things that were just plain dumb that they felt were either dated or they just didn't like!. So they decided to destroy their entire Multiverse (That's right they had parrallell universes and Earths, hence the name!.) and remake the multiverse into a sleeker much smaller and more modern universe!. They thought this would not only give them a chance to fix mistakes and make everything easier to remember and write, but that it would also let new readers in on the ground floor!. Over the past 20 years, they've undone a lot of the changes from Crisis!. Short of the first appearance of it's major characters Crisis is probably the most monumental event in DC comics!. That's why everything is reffered to post-crisis or pre-crisis!. One of the things they did affer the crisis is to re-do and re-launch most of their major characters, that's why there are so many #1 issues from DC from about 1985-87!. I recomend you pick up the Crisis on Infinite Earths trade paperback it's about $20 and a good read!. In case you were wondering Batman's First and pre-crisis appearance is Detective Comics #27 from 1939 (you can't afford it, but reprints are pretty cheap, I recomend the Batman Chronicles vol!. 1 trade paper back it's $15) Batman chronicles vol!. 1 also has the first appearance of Robin, The Joker, and Catwoman!. Batman's first post-crisis apearance is Batman 404!. That is the first part of the "Batman Year One" story!. It was a 4 part story by Frank Miller (The guy who created Sin City) that came out in 1987!. you could probably afford Batman 404, I think it's under $20, but if you don't care about the value and just want to read it I recomend the trade paper back of Batman Year One!. It retells Batman's origin in a much more grim, gritty, and modern way!. They also change a few things, but not much, mostly they just set it in modern times rather than the 1930s!. You can get Batman Year One for $15 I highly recomend it, it's a very good read!.

Here's a short list of trade paperbacks you should read

Batman Year One $15

Batman: The Killing Joke (By Alan Moore who did "V for Vendetta, and Watchmen) $15
