Kakashi values his privacy when it comes to personal aspects of his life!. While he is a good teacher and extremely brave, personal aspects of his life are held close!. This may have to do, in part, with his father's legacy and how his views of his father's choices changed over time!. I think his father's suicide affected him a great deal!. Once, his face was revealed when he briefly took his mask off to eat!. Only two saw his face, a male and a female - based on the story, they were both mesmerized by his beauty - which may be the real reason he wears the mask - to avoid calling attention to himself in that way!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Pretty sure the original reason was out of shame for what his father did, and after he learned to agree with his father's decision (see Kakashi Giaden for more detail), he just stuck with it!. It's definitely not something where he doesn't let people see him without the mask, as several times other characters would have; there were just objects in the way of *our* view!.

It might be so that no women know what he looks like!. It could also be something more philosophical in that he doesn't ever want people to see what he is really like!. As a ninja he probably killed a lot of people and when his mask is off he isn't a ninja that killed hundreds of people but just a normal person!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Kakashi in my opinion is a mysterious man beacause he has so many nick names from the other villages and countrys !.!.the reason he wears the mask is probably to conceil his identity in case of emergency or it could be as one of the others said its a father son thing!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
In the episode where they try to see behind kakashi's mask, the people in the ramen shop that see it go all gaga and have hearts in there eyes so he is most likely very handsome!. Maybe the mask is to look cool!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
