Mushishi and Kure-nai are my favourites!.
Ginko, a mushishi, travels researching Mushi and helping people suffering from Mushi related problems along the way!. Mushi are these creatures which have supernatural powers and only some people can see!. The series is episodic and there is no real over-arching plotline but each episode is filled with beautiful stories and packs a lot of character development into the episodes (since most characters are only in a single episode, except for a few)!. The animation style and technique is one of the best I have seen so far and that was also anther reason why I like it so much!. Its original run was 2005-2006 season!.
Kure-nai is a new anime this season and is about 16 year old Kure-nai Shinkuro and his daily life after he is given the position of body guard for the (I think 7 year old) Murasaki Kuhoin!. It has a little bit of everything action/comedy/drama and I really found watching the evolving relationship between the two!. Murasaki is from a prestigious family and basically has little to no social skills – since she has never really been allowed to leave her house – and through the show she comes to be more and more like an ordinary little girl, hahaha although the way she speaks reminds me more of an old lady!.

I'm really picky about anime -- I get sort of annoyed whenever I see stuff that seems like a re-hash of old stuff, and really don't care for childish stuff!.
My favorite anime series are:
- Samurai Champloo (26 episodes by Shinichiro Watanabe)
- Cowboy Bebop (26 episodes, again by Watanabe)!.
Both of those are pretty different from the norm, a LOT more mature, can be funny in a way that's not the typical cartoony anime way, and are aimed at older teen and young adult audiences!.
I think my real favorite anime is Berserk, but it's not for everyone!. I like it because of the incredible storyline and voice acting in the English dub!. The animation is sub-par at times and can be a turnoff to some!.!.!. if you're looking for an amazing story and a MUCH more mature style than almost any other anime out there, I'd suggest Berserk!.
Lemme know if you watch any of those and like 'em!.!.!. none are really similar to the typical anime (Inuyasha, Naruto, Bleach, Eureka 7, all the same stuff!.!.!.)

If you want movies, I really liked Ghost in the Shell and Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal!.
The Miyazaki movies "Princess Mononoke" and "Howl's Moving Castle" are targeted to wider audiences but were still awesome to me!. I wasn't a big fan of his other films, but loved those two!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

ill say "neon genesis evangelion", it was my second anime,
and it blew me away far more than any others i've seen,
its nicely done, its deep, got a whole lot of meaning behind it, and it makes you think a lot!.!.!.
