Naruto did not killed Itachi, but his brother, Sasuke did!. Naruto with others were chasing after Sasuke, but were interrupted on the way!. They did not make it in time to get to him, for he was already gone by the time they got to the battle site!.
Sasuke had come chasing after Itachi (Of course) in order to get revenge!. When they finally met, Sasuke found out that Itachi wanted his eyes, so that he wouldn't become blind!. That's when they started fighting!. They used powerful attacks and defenses that wore them both out!. Sasuke showed some unusual techniques while Itachi showed some unusual behavior!. It turns out that Itachi had been fighting off a sickness that made him weaker!. The rain also made it harder for them to fight!. In the end, with both of them at their limits, Itachi reached for Sasuke, seeming to try to get his eyes, but instead poke him in the forhead like he did in the past!. At that moment Itachi fell and died!. Later we learn that Itachi gave his powers to Sasuke, and actually wanted to die by Sasuke's hands!. That's why he was living and suffering at the same time from the illness!. We also learn some things about Itachi's past and Konoha that few people would have ever guessed!.
During the whole ordeal, Tsunade was in Konoha, so she was safe from the battle!. As for the future, we don't know what'll happen!. Pein might come and she'll try to kill him for revenge (Great!.
