I'm a sucker for sad scenes in anime, I cry too easily *sniff*!. Grave of the Fireflies is sad because the younger brother eventually died, and the older brother just doesn't have anyone anymore!.
Basilisk is sadder because Oboro couldn't bring herself to kill the one she loves, and stabs herself to death!. Gennosuke becomes insane with grief and killed anyone on the battlefield before eventually killing himself!. Though their deaths led to the end of the wars between the two clans, the cost of attaining the peace treaty is high!. Hatred sure has its ways on destroying all that we hold dear!.
Elfen Lied is very sad because of the underlying theme - humanity and love both being the essential components of becoming human, and how fragile both are!. When Lucy killed Kohta's sister and father and he went crazy in the train, I cried because I couldn't imagine how he felt, having to lose two of the people in his family to the one person he loves!.
Bleach has its share of sad moments too - the one that I identified with most is close to the ending of the Shinigami Arc where Byakuya confesses his mistake to Rukia and explaining himself, and the battle between Rukia and the Hollow that assumed her former Captain's form, Aaroniero Arrurruerie (I love the name XP)!.
Naruto also has sad moments, the one that being fresh in my mind was the night Sasuke returned to his home and remembered everything about his family up till the night Itachi killed his parents, and Gaara's past!.
But the saddest anime of all to me is FMA!. Death of Maes Hughes, night of the transmutation gone wrong, Nina's death, the Elrics' mother's death, Greed's death and sacrifice!.!.!.it was all too much!. The story was so good, you keep wanting to know what's happening next, and when the movie's over, you also felt overjoyed with the brothers' reunion in our world XD!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

When Kenshin Himura drew his last breath and Kaoru told him 'Welcome home Shinta' and then he died and the cross-shaped scar in his face can no longer be seen!.

Shinta was Kenshin's original name but his master replaced his name with Kenshin when he was about ten because he said the name Shinta is too gentle for a boy who have lived such a voilent life!. He had always been called Kenshin since then!. Before he left his wife for the Sino-Japanese war, he asked her if she could call him Shinta when he comes back she agreed!. She waited for him devotedly while suffering a strange disease she acquired from Kenshin on purpose to share a part of his suffering!.
Kenshin went on his way and despite of his weakening body and unfortunate circumstances, he was able to reach the shores of his home, half half-limping and half stumbling on his way!. His wife who was lying sick on her bed for a long time and have almost lost the will to live rushed outside to meet him on instinct and while she held his head on her arms, she welcomed him home, using the name associated with his original identity and not the identity he acquired after being known as an infamous man-slayer!.

When Sasuke decides to go off to Orochimaru!. And before he leaves him and Sakura run in to eachother!. Sakura confesses her love for him, and he doesnt even care!. Sakura is also like "Sasuke please take me with you, just dont leave me" Sasuke then finally says "Sakura, thank you for everything"!. Then Leaves!.

In the anime classic: The Slayers Next in the second season when Lina called on the Giga Slave to save Gourry and is overcome by the chaos within The Lord of Nightmares and Gourry tries his hardest to save her, confesses his love to her, but is unable to get her back in the end!. I think that the saddest part of an anime that i have watch, was in Naruto SHipuden,
when Saskue finds out the total truth about Itachi's past from Madara!. WHen I read that part, Ive cried for hours and couldnt get the thought out for days!. ITs just so sad how Itachi could love his brother so much and not be able to kill him!.Instead, Itachi plan to have his life taken away by his own brother, SAsuke

The ending of School Days is definitely the least expected ending I ever imagined!. Especially from a series that seems so "kiddish!."
