as what she said, the eikoden is just the 3rd OVA!.!.!.
although the difference is that miaka is not the main hero anymore!. tamahome is still there & the rest of the celestial warriors but there is a twist in the story!. i dont want to spoil the story line for you but then needless to say that since miaka is not the main character then it would be a tad different from the romantic-comedy theme of fushigi yuugi!.!.!.!.

Well technically Eidoken is also considered OVA 3!. If you are thinking about it compared to OVA 1and OVA 3, yes there's a difference, but technically it is an OVA too!. Just think of it as a continuation; It still continues on the same time line and continues to show how the book world as changed since OVA 1 and 2!.
