Well from what I understand yes for the most part in Japan most of the time people will cal each other by there last name out of respect to them, esspically if they do not know this person or are meeting them for the first time!. By calling them by there first name can come across as being disrespectful to them, and is most of the time an unformal way to call someone!. However,if the person has know then person like as a friendship for example then they are allowed to call them by there first name!. Most the time they don't so when sometimes a character will get really happy for example it is because they are talking to them as if it is a friendship not as being so formal!. also in some case's depending one there relationship with one another they will add suffix's to the end of there name!. For example when a brother is calling another brother they might to refer to them as nii-san,and nii-san meaning brother!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well, in Japan people usually address each other with like their last name or honorifics or something, like -san or -kun at their end of their name!. However, if someone calls somebody else by their first name it shows that they're really close and intimate!. It's more of a personal way to address someone unlike using their last name!. So, like in anime when u know the person blushes and are happy and stuff it's because of that!. also, if u call someone u don't know well by their first name it is considered really rude!. So, yeah it's a Japanese thing, and I'm not completely sure if it happens anywhere else or not, sorry!^_^Www@Enter-QA@Com

In Japanese, it's considered really intimate to call someone by their first name without "honorific"!. An honorific is like "Mr!." or "Mrs!." but is used much more commonly in Japan!. Most of my Japanese friends have used the Japanese honorific "-chan" when talking to even close friends, and it's considered a big step in a friendship to drop that!. Although, if you do it without warning, it can be considered rude!. The best way they can translate this is English is by calling someone by their last name most of the time, because it's weird to hear, "Mr!. Yugi" and "Mr!. Naruto" in American anime!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It is more polite in Japanese to call a person by their last name!.
If you use their first name it means you are close friends (or sometimes more, depends on context)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
