Well, I've never seen "Die Nasty And Die Hard," but I do know of some anime that I would consider dark themed :) I happen to be just getting into dark animes ^^
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Don't let the cute faces fool you; this anime is filled with deceit and gore; the first few episodes are cutesy, but when they get into the dark tone of the series they /really/ get into it!. This might not be the right anime for you, because most people get a little frustrated with the whole 're-living' concept (as in, after everyone's dead, the series starts from the beginning again, usually with another person being followed as the main character, with more details of things that happened in a previous arc)!. Though it was tedious to keep watching the same scenes over again sometimes, I thoroughly enjoyed the anime (I heard the manga is good too), so I would recommend it to anyone who is okay with disturbing content and the occassional gore!.
Death Note-
Death Note happens to be my current favorite anime; want a plot over view!? It's basically a teenager who makes it his duty to kill every criminal off using a demonic note book to make a new utopia, with himself as the god of this new world!. I found it dark in the sense that a teenager decides to place judgment on the wicked, and some of the scenes where he's killing people are dark!. It's more of a psychological thriller than anything else, but it has several dark moments!.
Paranoia Agent-
I haven't watched this in about a year, but I liked it!. In my opinion, PA was one of the darkest animes ever made; it dealt with several dark and controversial themes such as prostitution, children murdering other children, and suicide!. A must watch! :D
I watched/read Elfen Lied, and my favorite was also Nana!. I can't quite remember that really strong dude's name who tried to kill Nana at one point (the guy after Lucy), but when he died, I cried my eyes out xD I'm such a wimp!.

I don't know too many of those that are as hardcore as Elfen Lied!. Death Note and Code Geass have several!.!.!.deaths in them, but no near as violent!. Death Note is a psychologial thriller like Elfen Lied though!. There is also Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni!. It is very violent and is very dark!.
