His mutant power was to read languages and decipher codes - not very visually interesting, unfortunately, and comics is a visual medium!.
He was in the group The New Mutants, and befriended a techo-organic alien named Warlock - they would occasionally merge into the same being for Warlock's protection during battle, but it didn't save him from being shot by a villain called the Ani-Mator!.
When Warlock died, his ashes were scattered on Doug's grave, and then a merged entity , called Douglock, was resurrected by the Phalanx!. Douglock joined the group Excalibur for a while, but was revealed later to just be Warlock, with a copy of Cypher's memory!.
He was mentioned in the latest issue of Young X-Men, though, so they may be bringing him back shortly!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

He was killed saving the New Mutants from some villain years ago!.!.
but was kinda merged with WARLOCK and has become a new character!
But they haven't used him in a good long time now!
