Osaka's Texas Accent?!

Question: Osaka's Texas Accent!?
OK, aside from the fact that ADV Films is a Texas-based company, is there any logical reason for Osaka's English Dub to have a Texas accent!? I know that Osaka Japanese is different from Tokyo Japanese, but is it really that pronounced!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
There is a very logical reason to give an Osaka English dub a southern (Texas) accent!.

Osaka is in the Kansai region of Japan!. The Kansai region means to the Japanese what the Deep South does to Americans!. Like the American south, it is a rural area with lots of farms, and its people have a very noticeable accent!. (Kansai dialect tends to shorten words-sometimes condensing 3 or more words into one, and it has a different pitch intonation than standard Japanese!.!.!.I'm a linguistics major what more do you want :-P)

The Kansai region also carries many of the same stereotypical connotations of the American south (ie its people are uneducated, or red necks/hicks!.) and you can sometimes offend non Kansai natives by asking if they do come from the Kansai region, especially if said person is from the outskirts of Tokyo!.

So there you have it!.!.!.Osaka = Texas!. Literally!. (I don't know about the dubs of most series, but I know that general practice in good fansubbing is to give Osaka accented characters, like Ichimaru Gin from Bleach, southern accents too!.!.!.it's pretty standard!.)

I hope that helps!

Yggdrasil- If I understood the point that you are bringing up I have to disagree (which I may not!.!.!. I just got done with a grueling day of class and my brain is dead!. @!.@)!. If it is a Houston based company!.!.!.they will have no problem finding people without southern accents!.
That is where I live and I would say that only 5/10 people I meet have a "texas twang"!. People are also likely to move for work too, voice acting included, which is the case in Houston!. Houston actually has a soaring job market with unfilled positions, while other areas like where I go to school (Michigan) are losing people and are in deep economic depression!. People are pouring into Houston and we are seriously having issues finding enough legal construction workers to keep up with the housing demands!. So especially now, native texas twangers are becoming fast outnumbered!. also most voice actors have had lots of vocal training to be able to speak "standard english" (much like those in TV broadcasts, and just plain old actors)!. So, I really don't think that the fact that ADV is in Texas has anything to do with the fact that it's dub had the southern accent, especially when dealing with Osaka-ben anime!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i'm not sure but maybe they texas accent would be the american equivalent of the osaka accent!. osaka is a part of japan but it's got its own slang that might be quite difficult for another japanese to understand!. so in america, teh texas accent is similar, one that texans mite understand but people from other places mite have a hard time understandin!. it might also help with the many "word jokes" that Osaka is so well known for!.
