Um!.!.!.if you want to appear Japanese, you're pretty much lying to your readers now aren't you!? You don't have to appear Asian to have readers, you know!. If you have a compelling plotline and good artwork then you don't need the penname at all!. If you're not of Japanese descent, please don't pretend that you are!. You shouldn't be ashamed of your own heritage and try to copy someone else's style and culture!. Just because you're not Japanese it doesn't mean you can't be a comic hit!.
If you feel that you have to seduce people into reading your work with some spiffy honorific because you're not Japanese and you want to appear so because of your style, then you should probably alter your "manga"!. A true artist wants their own voice and style, so I'll suggest you develop your own individual drawing style so you don't need the Japanese nickname!. Otherwise, you're not going to get very far with your manga, nickname or no!. No one wants to read something that's been reproduced hundreds of times before!.
